Elected organs
The Project Financing Committee (HARA) decides on the financing proposals for the developmental projects and directs the preparation of the regional programme.
The 19-member Managing Board, which meets once a month, is responsible for the Council's operations. Chairman of the Board serves as its presenting official. The currently appointed members are functioning in their respective tasks during the years 2009 - 2013.
The region's highest decision-making body is its 100-member Assembly, which is in charge of the strategic policies of the region. The members are municipal councillors in their home sub regions and meet two to three times a year to decide on regional matters. The terms of both the Managing Board and the Assembly last one municipal election term. Currently, the members are functioning in their positions during the years 2009 - 2013.
The Regional Management Committee (MYR) decides on the policies of the developmental projects and the distribution of the financing framework. The management committee is made up of 41 representatives from various regional organizations as well as from specialist quarters.
The Archipelago Board on its part participates with respect to its sphere of operations in the preparation of matters concerning planning and lobbying as well as development within the context of municipal law.
The task of the Land Use Division is to prepare regional plans and environmentally related questions as well as make proposals for measures affecting these matters.
The Cultural Committee makes annually a proposal of a person, association or authority who meritoriously has worked within science, arts or other cultural work in Southwest Finland, to receive the region's cultural prize, the Aurora medal.
