Southwest Finland is an educational region, that educates experts also to meet the needs of other parts of Finland and Europe. The strength of the region is high class and broad competence. There are two universities in Turku, the University of Turku in Finnish, and Åbo Akademi University in Swedish. Additionally, there are four universities of applied sciences in Turku: Turku University of Applied Sciences, Novia University of Applied Sciences, Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, and HUMAK University of Applied Sciences.

There are 16 providers of vocational elementary education and the educational institutions are situated throughout the region. Every year there are about 9 500 new students in the universities, universities of applied sciences, and vocational institutions in Southwest Finland.
